RAMONA GLASGOW

GASWORKS ARTS PARK
DIRECTED BY TOVE DUE
[September, 2022]
SHORTLISTED: Midsumma Queer Playwrights Award, 2023

It’s the summer of 1969. The Beatles are strutting across Abbey Road, Butch Cassidy’s robbing trains on the silver screen and man has just landed on the moon. But all Jess Prescott cares about is premiering her new play, 'The Death of Eurydice.' She doesn’t have time for distractions, and she certainly doesn’t have time for Ramona Glasgow, her brother’s university girlfriend, who’s come to town to watch the performance.

But as temperatures and tempers soar, Jess finds herself drawn to Ramona, and makes a choice that will send them both down a path that will have disastrous consequences for all involved.

A contemporary play that reflects on the history and culture of LGBTQIA+ persons in Australia, Ramona Glasgow explores a relationship between two women in 1960's regional Victoria, who must grapple with questions of morality and public perception in an era where queer relationships were widely condemned and still criminalised in every Australian state.
